Some words about SUMMER'S BLOG

I love peanut butter, avocado and oatmeal. Not together of course, but nearly any recipe that calls for these ingredients I'll probably enjoy. I have the misfortune of living with some food sensitivities but the extreme fortune of knowing what those sensitivities are - gluten (only mild, thank goodness), nightshades, lactose, and refined sugar. I'm not a formally trained chef, but I love cooking (and eating!) delicious, guilt-free food. I'm a fitness model, certified nutrition coach, trainer and an IFBB pro bikini athlete... and I eat 6 times a day. When I'm not in the kitchen preparing something extraordinary, I'm - in the gym, rushing off to an audition, at a photo shoot, studying nutrition, or planning a vacation. Hope you enjoy my site! Protein Packed Popcorn

Yesterday was moving day, as my short term lease (that I luckily secured whilst in India) was up. The all-familiar packing scramble had only begun the day before, as I’ve come to  realize I work faster under pressure.  To my surprise, I hadn’t a care in the world and I happily folded my clothes, sorted through my belongings and took breaks for my last home-cooked meals as a Beverly Hills resident. My plants said goodbye to their patio, and I said adieu to my domain.

I have become comfortable with detachment. Staying in a place (job, home, relationship that isn’t working, routine that isn’t healthy, etc) for too long makes me complacent and I seem to lose my productivity and even forget the goals I have planned for my life. Have you ever noticed when you go on vacation, which essentially breaks your normal routine, you start brainstorming ideas, inventions, and future plans? Moving away from comfort (or should I say comfort zone, because vacation is actually more comfortable!), spurs creativity and actually allows space for self-discovery!

I’m not saying you need to pick up and move, especially if you own a home! I’m not even really talking about the benefits of vacation (which I often harp on!). What I’m saying is I can find peace and even inspiration in the moving process. Emotions I hadn’t found in former moves!

Anyhow, as I was bouncing to storage, signing leases, and packing/unpacking my car I was munching on a little treat I picked up in Las Vegas last weekend. Now brace yourselves, because this is some serious news. The treat was the most amazing protein packed popcorn!! Yes, nearly 25 grams per bag! The gods have answered my prayers yet again!

The mastermind behind the whole operation? Popped Corn Shop and owners Olivier Morowati, Jean-Francois Chavanel, and Zelma Iwatsubo.  When I was living in Vegas, I regularly “popped” into their delightfully cool little shop to see what flavors they’d come up with for the month (more like week, but don’t tell). Always aiming to please even the most refined of palates (wink, wink), I was completely consistently satisfied with their selection. So it was no shock that their newest creation, their protein packed popcorn, would be my new obsession!

The protein comes from the sprinkling of nutritional yeast on the crunchy ‘corn. Nutritional yeast is actually deactivated yeast which has a cheesy, nutty flavor. The stuff packs some powerful nutrients, particularly in the form of protein (as mentioned), fiber, magnesium, copper, zinc, and B-vitamins.   It is low in sodium, but actually gives popcorn the taste of salted, cheesy popcorn! Love this stuff!!!

As a happily regular customer, and now friend of the owners, they gifted me with some fabulous duds while I was there! Their new shirts are so cool and the colors just “pop” (there’s that word again! haha but it works!). I am so excited to share this new find, and hope the bodybuilders that get word of this creation leave some corn for the rest of us!

*Notable flavors to try: S’mores (with real graham cracker, marshmallow, and Swiss chocolate); Bling Bling Cookies and Cream (with real Oreo cookies, Swiss chocolate and edible glitter); Marilyn Monroe (Swiss white chocolate, coconut, and edible glitter); Dilly Pickle; Toasted (cinnamon and sugar); and named by yours truly – Pink-a-delik (raspberry white chocolate with nerds and pop rocks)
